Sept. 2019: Congratulations to former PhD student Dipa Pradhan-Sundd on her promotion to Research Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.

January 2019: A great interview with former student Vilaiwan Fernandes was featured in The Node. She was awarded the Santa Cruz Developmental Biology Young Investigator Award.

​Vilaiwan also recently started her own lab at University College London studying ​how glial cells shape the developing brain.

January 2019: The Verheyen Lab's first PhD student, Yi Arial Zeng (graduated in 2005) was recently featured in the ISSCR Newsletter for her work in mammary stem cells!

Congrats to Kristi Charish on her successful writing career! Her first book, OWL AND THE JAPANESE CIRCUS (2015, Simon & Schuster Canada) is an urban fantasy about Ex-archaeology grad student turned international antiquities thief, Alix— better known now as Owl—a modern-day “Indiana Jane” who reluctantly navigates the hidden supernatural world. The second instalment, OWL AND THE CITY OF ANGELS, was released Jan 2016. Her second series, KINCAID STRANGE (Random House Canada), about a Seattle voodoo practitioner who rooms with the ghost of late grunge rockstar, Nathan Cade, will be out May 2016.

2013 Congrats to former Ph.D. student Lorena Braid and her Aurora Biosolutions for being in the news about developing stem cell therapies:
" In 2013, the Department of National Defence (DND) awarded a contract to the Canadian company Aurora Biosolutions to produce stem cell research at DRDC centre in Suffield, Alberta. The goal of the research project is to develop Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapeutics to be used by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). ​"
